Bio -

After graduating high school in Cedar Rapids, I started commissioned work, oil painting someone's pet or child, to pick up a couple bucks while working as a bookkeeper for several businesses. Moving to Ames, I was a wrecker driver/ for a triple A auto service.  One of my tasks was designing our ads in the weekly advertiser.  I also painted portraits of drivers in their race cars. Having no formal education in art, in the late 80's when my twin sons were a little older, I decided to enroll yearly in some sort of adult ed art class.  I took basic drawing, oil painting, acrylic painting, colored pencil drawing, ceramics, watercolor, screen printing, Renaissance painting, torch fired glass beads, recessed wood etching, to name a few. Porcelain doll making was an exciting class and captivated me, so I taught the same in my garage for 5 years at night.  Now retired from ISU after 26 years as a rather bored office worker, I have the time to dedicate myself back to my first real love, art.

The abstract world had fascinated me, but I've never understood it.  I've learned so much more from taking an open studio class with many artists working in several mediums and styles.  So this is where I'm at now, trying to understand and create good abstracts in charcoal, and also the vivid alcohol inks which are unpredictable.  Each is so different from the other, but quite alluring!  I adore doing the "Confetti Animals".  And just maybe that's where my background in realism,  my interest in abstract, and my love of animals collide.   I am an Alcoholinkaholic!

Just before I retired, I bought my other passion, a '52 Chevy pickup.  I now fully understand those who have all that endearing dedication for their vintage vehicles.  I hope to do justice to other's classics as I tried to do mine.  "He" is in front of an old barn with a Collie beside, waiting for a ride.   (see below)

I hope you enjoy this site as much as I had making it !

                                                               Thanks to you,      Jorja

It would be fun to work with you on your personalized portrait, maybe a Confetti Pet?   Or let me come teach you  and friends, the inks at your event or party.
